Peter Bougie strives to represent what he sees accurately, especially in terms of the overall "note" - a visual notion encompassing the large value and color relationships of subject combined with nuanced drawing, in this case with the loaded brush, sound composition and an eye toward mood. The latter sensibilities draw heavily on subjective qualities such as personal experiences of life and nature, and also of the painting traditions of the past. Bougie hopes that the work inspires a sense of recognition and of beauty in the viewer. These are representations of an extravagant creations which is always coming into being and passing away. If we are blind to it or silent about it, we are diminished.
