About the Artist

Stella Holmes

Stella Holmes

Stella grew up in Detroit, Michigan.  As a young child she quickly realized her need to create.  As an avid sewer she began making her creations and designing her own clothes. As she expanded and learned different techniques, she started painting on clothing and selling them at Art Fairs in California and Michigan. In her 30’s she started a business sewing and painting on silk and cotton clothing which she continued for 18 years doing Art Shows. Stella lived in 4 different states and throughout her travels she took college courses, many workshops in mosaic, watercolor, handpainted silk, stained glass, jewelry design, print press, acrylic abstract art and pastels. Her last move to Wisconsin had her going back to her roots of painting on canvas. She realized that painting on canvas can be a permanent way for someone to have and cherish a piece of artwork for a lifetime.  She feels peace and joy when painting and hopes that feeling is passed on to her collectors.
