Turquoise Ring
Gail Hefti
Nature has been a quiet underlying theme in Gail Hefti’s work since the beginning, specifically sea forms with their tactile qualities. Materials and techniques that Hefti uses tend to be tradition and she hand fabricates in what she hopes to be a unique final product. Hefti loves texture and the processes of texturing metal using etching, chasing and roller printing. Ideas can develop using a stone but her aim is to incorporate them as a working part of the entire piece. Her aesthetic choices are intuitive rather than premeditated. Some pieces more than not, seem to develop spontaneously on their own; Gail Hefti prefers results that are not excessively ‘designed’.
